Saint James Lutheran Church - Continuing Our Lord's Work

Preschool

Saint James Lutheran Church has been instrumental in the education of children for many decades offering a private kindergarten program in the 1950's through the 1970's before North Carolina required kindergarten in public schools. As kindergarten classes became a part of the public school program, Saint James /files/SiteImages/preschool.jpgLutheran changed with the times and began a preschool program in the fall of 1983. The preschool began with one class for 3 and 4 year old children.
Over the years the program has expanded and today classes are offered for 1 year old through pre-kindergarten. Margaret Pruette is the director of the preschool and previously taught at the preschool for five years. We currently offer a one year old class on Monday and Wednesday; two year old, three year old, and four year old classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; a four year old class that meets Monday thru Friday; and a two year old/ three year old combination class that meets on Tuesday and Thursday. We have a staff of twelve teachers.

It is the purpose of the Preschool to offer a positive environment along with a wide range of activities that will promote optimum learning. The Preschool promotes positive growth in physical, social, intellectual, language, emotional, and spiritual development. Positive values, attitudes, and self-concept are stressed. Interactions with peers and adult teachers promote social development. Large and small motor skills as well as self-help skills are taught. In the 4-year-old class, kindergarten preparation is the main area of focus. Each child is viewed as an individual and is encouraged to grow and develop at his/her own rate.

Children attend classes from 9:00am-12:00pm. An optional "lunch bunch" is offered two days a week from 12:00pm-1:00pm. The Preschool follows the Cabarrus County school calendar from September to May.  All classes meet on the first floor of the educational building.
